Mermaid buys supply vessel for $US31.5m

Mermaid Marine says it will buy a new 75-metre platform supply vessel from Singapore's OTTO Marine for $US31.5 million.

The company said the vessel would be used to transport cargo to offshore rigs and platforms and other tasks to support offshore oil and gas operations.

Mermaid managing director Jeff Weber said the ship was the second of its type in the company's fleet and significantly expanded its capabilities in offshore drilling and construction support.

Mermaid said the vessel would be chartered to Allseas to support the Gorgon Jansz pipelay project beginning in the fourth quarter.
